Anti-wrinkle:
Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is a cosmetic and medical treatment widely used for various purposes. It is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which, when injected in small amounts, can temporarily paralyze muscle activity.
Wrinkles are caused by a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors:
Intrinsic Factors
- Aging: As we age, the skin naturally loses elasticity and firmness due to the decrease in collagen and elastin production. The skin becomes thinner and drier, making it more prone to wrinkles.
- Genetics: Your genetic makeup can influence the onset and extent of wrinkle formation. Some people may develop wrinkles earlier or have more pronounced lines due to hereditary factors.
Extrinsic Factors
- Sun Exposure (Photoaging): Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun breaks down collagen and elastin fibres in the skin, leading to premature aging and wrinkle formation.
- Facial Expressions: Repeated facial movements, such as frowning, squinting, or smiling, can lead to dynamic wrinkles. Over time, these expression lines can become more permanent.
- Smoking: Smoking accelerates the aging process by reducing blood flow to the skin and depleting oxygen and essential nutrients. It also promotes the breakdown of collagen and elastin.
- Diet: Poor nutrition can affect the skin’s health and its ability to repair and regenerate. Diets high in sugar and refined carbohydrates can accelerate aging by causing glycation, which damages collagen.
- Alcohol Consumption: Excessive alcohol intake can dehydrate the skin and impair its ability to repair itself, leading to premature wrinkles.
- Environmental Pollutants: Exposure to pollution can cause oxidative stress, which damages skin cells and contributes to the aging process.
- Sleep Positions: Repeatedly sleeping in certain positions can cause sleep lines that become etched into the surface of the skin.
By understanding and addressing these factors, it’s possible to take steps to minimize wrinkle formation and maintain healthier, younger-looking skin.
The treatment:
Improvement of lines and wrinkles is offered only after a consultation with one of our Aesthetic Nurses, who will evaluate your suitability for treatment and discuss your desired outcomes.
During the procedure, a tiny needle is used to inject a substance into the facial muscles, reducing lines and wrinkles within two weeks. The treatment is quick, very safe, and relatively painless. Although you might experience some temporary redness and bruising afterward, you can resume your normal activities immediately.
We will schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks after your treatment to assess its effectiveness. The results typically last between 3 to 6 months, depending on the severity of your lines and the strength of the muscles being treated.
